The short version: your mail, calendar and tasks are synced straight from your provider to your Mac and stored there. putty's servers never receive them. Content goes to an AI model only when you use an AI feature on it, and we never sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who we are
putty ("we") makes the putty app for macOS and runs the small online service it uses for accounts, app sync and AI credits. Questions about this policy: hello@withputty.com.
Data that stays on your Mac
When you connect a Google account, putty uses Google's APIs to sync your email, calendar events, task lists and contacts to a database on your Mac, so the apps can show them and work offline. Changes you make (archiving, replying, creating an event) are sent from your Mac directly to Google. Your sign-in tokens are encrypted with your Mac's Keychain. putty's servers never receive this data.
Data our service stores
- Your account: your email address, your Google account identifier and, if available, your name and picture — to create your putty account and keep you signed in.
- Your apps: the code and version history of apps you create or customize, and which apps you pin or hide, so they sync across your Macs. This is app code you made, not your mail.
- AI credits: your plan, credit balance and the AI usage needed to count it. If you pay, Stripe processes the payment; we keep only the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers, never your card details.
- Customization requests: when you ask putty to build or change an app, we keep the request, the models used, timings and cost, to run, bill and improve the builder.
AI features
putty's AI features use models from providers such as Anthropic and Google, reached through OpenRouter. They see your content only when you use them:
- Building and customizing apps sends your request and the app's code. Previews the builder looks at are drawn with made-up sample data, never your mail.
- Summaries and writing help (putty brain) send only the thread or text you act on, when you press the button, and only in apps you've allowed to use it. Answers are saved on your Mac so you aren't asked twice.
We don't use your content to train AI models.
Google user data
putty's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, we use Google user data only to provide putty's features to you; we don't transfer it except as described above to provide those features, to comply with law, or with your consent; we don't use it for advertising; and no person at putty reads it unless you ask us to for support, it's needed for security, or the law requires it.
putty does not use Google Workspace API data to develop, improve, or train generalized AI and/or ML models.
Sharing
We share data only with the providers that run putty's service: Railway (hosting), Supabase (database), OpenRouter and the AI model providers (AI features), Stripe (payments) and GitHub (app downloads and updates). We don't sell personal data.
Keeping and deleting data
Data on your Mac stays until you delete the app's data or disconnect your account. Signing out of putty removes your tokens from the Mac. To delete your putty account and everything our service stores, email hello@withputty.com from your account's address; we do it within 30 days. You can also remove putty's access at any time in your Google account settings.
Security
Traffic to our service is encrypted. Stored AI keys are encrypted, and apps run sandboxed with only the permissions you grant.
Children
putty isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll say so here and in the app before it takes effect.
